Presently, we are using OPNET in the context of the Castelldefels research project:

CASTELLDEFELS PROJECT: Modeling & Simulation of the Computer System that supports the UOC Virtual Campus

We are developing, using OPNET, a discrete-event simulation study on the computer system that gives support to the intranet of the Open University of Catalonia (a completely on-line university with a Virtual Campus). The project has both research and educational objectives:

At research level, the main purpose of this study is to help the computer network managers to obtain a better understanding of its internal operation. Other research objectives of this project are related to the discovery of possible performance problems (bottle necks, weak points in the structure, etc.), and to the testing of new designs of the network that could increase its performance, reliability and scalability levels.

At educational level, the main objective of this project is to promote the development of master thesis, related to the research project, among computer sciences students.

Results of the Castelldefels Project are intended to be presented at international conferences and published in international journals.
